8th grade Presentation on 5/7/17
"The Opiate Effect"

On May 7, 2013 the FMS Wellness Team invited Mr. Skip Gates, a Maine teacher for 42 yrs, to talk to the 8th grade class about the dangers associated with drug abuse.  Mr. Gates has worked with the US Attorney's office and has presented to both middle and high schools around New England.

Sadly, his family experienced a horrible tragedy when his son, Will, died of a heroin overdose 4 years ago.  His son was a tremendous student athlete studying molecular genetics while racing for the University of Vermont's ski team.

Mr. Gates has retired from his teaching job to reach out to students about decision making and temptations with drug abuse.  He spoke on a personal level reminding us that the smallest choices we make can have the biggest impact in our life as well as the lives of others.
